Land-Based Adventure Advantages
Which is best for you? A land-based Galapagos Adventure, or a cruise?
Traditionally travel in the Galapagos Islands has been by boat. Some carry as few as ten passengers and some are as large as 150. For many people this is an ideal way to explore the islands.
In the past decade a new way to experience the Galapagos has come into being as small hotels have been built in the four small towns that are located in the islands. For some people a land-based Galapagos tour is the perfect alternative to a cruise. This may be because some people find boats too confined, or have issues with sea-sickness. Because land-based trips spend more time in small towns than cruises do, some people enjoy getting to learn about the human population on the islands, which is also a part of the larger ecosystem. For others, it's the additional free time to explore on your own.
Red Mangrove lodges are all in a tranquil setting and provide excellent privacy. They are also within walking distance of many attractions if you care to do some exploring on your own. For example, on Santa Cruz you might want to take the two mile walk to Tortuga Beach to see marine iguanas and have silky white sand between your toes.
We are proud too that many local businesses benefit from our presence. Red Mangrove lodges participate in sustainable management, employing and training locals, educating them as well as visitors on the importance of protecting these islands, and even sponsoring individuals to help better their communities and their efforts to conserve and care for the Galapagos Islands.
Whether you choose to explore the Galapagos by boat or one of our land-based adventures, you will discover a world of wonder. Please call if we might answer any questions you have about which itinerary or trip would suit you best.
